Oilseed Processing

Ste. Agathe, MB

Viterra’s canola oils help food manufacturers address consumer demand for healthy, minimally processed oils.

Our canola processing facility at Ste. Agathe, Manitoba produces all-natural canola oil using an expeller-based process, which maintains the natural nutritional value for food applications. It also produces canola meal for swine, poultry and dairy markets that utilizes the same expeller-pressed process. The plant is FSSC 22000 Certified.

Viterra’s far-reaching relationships and access to thousands of canola producers assures end users a consistent supply of the highest quality product available.

Stable

Thanks to high levels of monounsaturated fats, verraUltra9 Canola Oil is naturally stable and therefore foods stay fresh longer without additives or artificial preservatives. This natural stability enables the removal of partially hydrogenated oils with limited impact to shelf life.

Healthy

Canola oil, such as verraUltra from Viterra, already is recognized for having zero trans fats and one of the lowest levels of saturated fats. As the verraUltra9 name highlights, this canola oil contains more heart-healthy, omega-9 monounsaturated fats than other cooking oils. These attributes give food manufacturers who use Viterra’s canola oils a nutrition edge:

  • Consumers recognize saturated fats are unhealthy; 40% are trying to limit them in their diet.(*1)
  • U.S. Dietary Guidelines recommend replacing trans and saturated fats with good fats, such as those in verraUltra and verraUltra9 Canola Oil.
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is requiring removal of trans fats from processed foods.
Clean

The unique nutrition profile of verraUltra and verraUltra9 Canola Oil was developed through traditional plant breeding, paving the way for the only high oleic canola oil option for food manufacturers. In addition, Viterra’s expeller-press process — which uses pressure rather than solvent extraction to remove oil from seeds — helps maintain the purity of our canola oil products, as well as their nutrition value and integrity. Together, these attributes allow food companies to simplify product labels without sacrificing taste or performance.

Traceable

Transparency is increasingly important to consumers, and yet, 70% say they do not have access to the information they want about their food.(*2) The canola for verraUltra and verraUltra9 oil is grown under an identity preserved program, which ensures quality and control along the supply chain, from the farmers who grow it, to our plants where it is crushed. In this way, Viterra is helping food manufacturers answer consumer questions about where food comes from.

On Trend

Most Americans (94%) snack daily and half of adults are snacking multiple times each day.(*3) According to Innova Market Insights “Top 10 Food Trends,” consumers want to feel good about their snack food choices, so they are seeking options made with feel-good, “natural” processes or wholesome ingredients. As expeller-pressed oils with better nutrition profiles than most cooking oils, verraUltra and verraUltra9 help snack manufacturers offer products that meet the expectations of today’s consumer.

Reliable

At Viterra, we view every business relationship as a partnership. This collaboration helps us drive continuous innovation and improvement, and ultimately, helps our customers build increased value into their food products.
